In 2022, a panel outside Cool Frank looked at this sink organiser and judged the design on its own merits. Here's what that actually involved, and what it doesn't promise.

Plenty of things call themselves award-winning

Search for a kitchen organiser and half the listings call themselves award-winning. A blog names its own top five. A seller badges its own product page. Nobody says who judged what, or against what.

The award this sink organiser holds is run by Good Design Australia, not by Cool Frank. The design was entered the same way as anything else that year and rated by an outside panel. Winning it doesn't mean the drip tray never overflows or that every colour stays in stock. It means people with nothing to sell looked at the object and judged the design on its own terms.

Why Cool Frank exists

Sian and Bec started Cool Frank in Brisbane in late 2019 and worked with the Clandestine Design Group to get the shape right before anything went near a factory. Drainage was one of the harder problems to solve — a soap tray that holds water goes mouldy, so every compartment needed somewhere for the water to go. That detail, and a dozen smaller ones, went in front of a judging panel in 2022. The award wasn't why they built it. It's what happened after they built it properly.

The details a judge would actually look at

The drip tray

Sits under the compartments and catches what runs off the brush and sponge, so it doesn't pool on the bench underneath.

The drip holes

Each compartment has its own holes in the base. Water moves through instead of sitting in the corner and going stale.

One shape, in more than one product

The same body sits underneath the Drip Deck and the Gleam & Go Mini, just with the caddy left off the smaller one. That's why a customer measuring a narrow bench and a judge assessing a design brief end up looking at the same shape, just at two different sizes.

The Drip Deck

The Drip Deck holds hand soap and detergent bottles, a brush, a cloth and a sponge, on the design this page is about. If your bench is narrower, the Gleam & Go Mini carries the same bottle set without the caddy. Either way, the Clean Team Reload keeps the brush heads, cloths and sponges coming once the originals wear out.
